nice to know you too! if you want to try out things at Jaben, try to go on weekdays rather than on weekends as weekends tend to be very crowded that you cannot even enter the store!

Jaben is at ADELPHI building lantai paling atas, posisinya diseberang FUNAN IT MALL.
Naik MRT aja ke CITY HALL, dari situ tanya Funan IT Mall dimana.
Adelphi kurang terkenal, jadi kalo mau tanya2, tanya2 Funan dimana.

kalo gak salah keluar exitnya cityhall, menghadap jalan raya, jalan ke arah kiri... lewatin 2 blok (lampu merah) langsung sampe di Adelphi. Funan akan ada di seberang (kanan) jalan.

I've look at google map, but still I can't read maps really well lol.. hahaha, the only place I found that pretty cheap is in bugis area... how's it? pretty close? or far?
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: shiroa on Sep 02, 2009, 00:34:11
hope these 2 pictures help

jaben1(large).jpg is direction from the bugis' hotel81 to jaben.. as well as the distance and route :)

jaben2(custom).jpg is the other hotels :D

actually there are more hotels in the surrounding area (notified by red spots), to look at them, you might want to do exactly the same thing i did (put keyword "hotels near coleman street" in google maps, dont forget to add "singapore" after) :D

woah, nice tips shiroa... now I know how to use google maps correctly hahaha...

but I also have plan B which is, I travel there by night train from KL which makes me arrive at the morning, then come back to KL with night train from Singapore.

and, I'll visit jaben between the gap...

anyone tried that??
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: shiroa on Sep 02, 2009, 01:01:08
train took almost 10 hours.. not really a good choice.. :) i got my friend an airasia ticket from LCCT to Changi for 25RM / less than 100.000IDR for one way (cos he then takes flight home from singapore).. hehe.. otherwise bus is your best bet :D
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: shiroa on Sep 02, 2009, 01:02:14
oh and the airasia ticket has gone up to 4x of that price, sadly, :(
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: dancedetrance on Sep 02, 2009, 01:09:44
yeah, hahaha I just want to take that ticket... but when I want to take it 2 with my friend the price suddenly multiplied... hahaha, there are some days that I still can get 25Rm for ticks but I can't go on that time, too bad...

if not going by train I'll be going by bus, which is faster isn't it?

the only things that I thinking right now is the accommodation that nearly impossible to get room with decent price in this close time...
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: shiroa on Sep 02, 2009, 01:15:25
yeap... FYI the accmdation prices has gone soo high due to the F1 coming up.. and the holidays of course :) oh and yes, the bus will take no longer than 5-7hours, much faster and cheaper than train :D
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: dancedetrance on Sep 02, 2009, 01:23:24
which bus do you recommend me to go with? since all of my friends told me to go with aeroline coach, and it cost more than the air asia tix...
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: shiroa on Sep 02, 2009, 01:25:03
well i was just gonna say aeroline :)) if airasia is still cheaper then go for it i'd say :)
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: dancedetrance on Sep 02, 2009, 01:32:27

I wouldn't suggest to stay in Hotel 81 actually....to be honest that hotel is known as "happy ending" hotel....

Better to stay in Lucky Plaza flat....cost you around 80 SGD/night which can be shared by 2 people, I can give you contact person if needed :D

Maybe you can check on valuair for cheap airplane ticket to spore...

Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: tuwinkk on Sep 02, 2009, 09:11:01
if u want to stay around 80 bucks per night..
u can stay in Amara hotel.

http://www.booking.com/hotel/sg/amara-singapore.en.html?aid=311088;label=hotel-25110-sg-vCUQsNRsF8f*6fJqLRpaswS1097091063;ws=&gclid=CKSO9rDs0ZwCFdMtpAodJksZJA

bus to/from KL?
u can check on transtar...there's quite nice also.
Train is not reccomended regarding to the safety and comfortability.

airplane ticket from KL to Singapore?
yea, it's cheaper. but the airport in KL is quite far from the city. I think it should be more than 30 mins from Bukit bintang/KLCC area to KLIA.
When u reached Singapore, it'll be same situation.
If u use bus, u'll go from downtown to the downtown.
Most of the bus in singapore depart in Bugis/Lavender area.

FYI only.

yep, and i'd recommend to avoid taxis as much as possible, they will cost around 70-100RM, especially at overtime hours (if you can, avoid early morning tickets which most probably force you to go by taxis). Its best to go to KL Central and catch LCCT's skybus from there.. very cheap and affordable :)

google: "singapore backpackers hostel"

rates are around $20-$30 for dorm room. (satu ruangan bisa 6-15 beds)
quite safe kok. kebanyakan turis2 bule dari eropa yg nginep disitu.
just lock everything valuable, and/or don't leave them in the hotel.

@ dancedtrance :
Actually for me Valuair is much better than Air Asia as they offer a reliable service...I've been using Valuair (SUB - SG and vice versa) for more than 12 times and never they delayed the departure time...

I'm going to Spore maybe on first week of Oct (maybe around 8-9 Oct departure)...On 9 October there will be Jaben gathering (every Friday) which I wouldn't want to pass along..

Anyone care to join on Oct? Can share room...:D

waaah, why don't during the lebaran? on that that I think I can't go to singapore, I would be in the middle of a project.
http://www.ymcaih.com.sg

$35 is what I've seen on their sites, better give them a call to ascertain the rates.

I prefer YMCA to Lucky Plaza. Stayed there couple times with my mates and relatives, it's always been a pleasure for my wallet :D

I don't know now, because my friend said he got a place which cost around 80SGD and it can fit 6 people in a room..

google: "singapore backpackers hostel"

rates are around $20-$30 for dorm room. (satu ruangan bisa 6-15 beds)
quite safe kok. kebanyakan turis2 bule dari eropa yg nginep disitu.
just lock everything valuable, and/or don't leave them in the hotel.

I found one pretty interesting located in bugis, named Bugis Backpacker hotel, anybody ever heard that one??
@dancedetrance :

hehe, it's ok bro.. I might find other time to go to the gathering... hehehe

Bugis backpacker hotel has one of the best location. It's right across from Bugis Junction and Bugis MRT. 1 MRT Stop from Cityhall.

Price is not cheapest, and facilities and service can be better, but the others with better facilities and service are further (i.e The Inncrowd di Little india).

Gw dah berapa kali di Bugis backpackers. Receptionistnya encim2 umur 40an.. very unfriendly. :P

Oh, and Valuair is also good. Gw dah pernah naik sekali.

oh, ok... I just found another nice hostel... but I think it is pretty far... the name is Habitat Hostel.

and it is located on Devonshire Rd...

anyway, if many said so about valuair, maybe I'll tell my friend to go with it...

sorry if my grammar is not very good.

@ben,
yes, you must realize that valuair is the low-cost carrier, so the services is not same or even better than garuda or singapore airlines

if you want to fly with valuair from jakarta, i suggested you to fly Jetstar(they make some codeshare with valuair)their flight number started with JQ(check on valuair.com.sg)...

last time i flew to singapore JQ114 with the newest jetstar's plane, how lucky i am :)

hahaha, must respect the rule deh gw... <------ opo iki?

the valuair that I mean is JetStar actually... and overall cost it gets more expensive than air asia...

the tax n etc cost is higher and baggage add more sum of money than air asia... -_-

anyway, someone mention about cheaper transtar rate earlier, how cheap it can be?

because on their websites the rate is pretty expensive... even aeroline expensive too...

gakpapa dah, itung2 sambil belajar b.inggris:),maaf klo salah.

err, mr.dancetrance, when did you booked the ticket? last time(13july'09) i'm comparing both of airasia & valuair's price and got that valuair is more cheaper than airasia(with newer fleet)

fyi, based on my knowledge
airasia parked on changi's budget terminal, valuair(jetstar) on terminal 1 with a greater facility, thats why i choose valuair:)
Title: Re: Visiting Singapore
Post by: Benz on Sep 06, 2009, 06:58:16
Almost 3 hours delay, and my baggage was left behind. I have no problem with the delay, but they made me waiting for their second flight to arrive which was around 5 hours later. They didn't want to deliver it to my hotel. Crap.

I'm completely aware it's a budget airline, but their service is unacceptable even for budget airline.

Garuda is good, but I would choose to fly with SilkAir if the fee doesn't differ much. In contrast with ValuAir, I had a really nice experience with SilkAir. 2 hours delay made me missed my connecting flight, next flight was on the next morning, but they took full responsibility by re-arranging my flight, and providing hotel and meal, free of charge. Fantastic airline :)

valuair is more expensive on the tax, since airasia is malaysians, I think they put lower tax on em..

i book valuair(jetstar codeshare JQ114) ticket the day before i went to singapore(14july'09) for $135, and airasia cost $140++ with older aircraft(B737-300 plane usually to singapore)

next time if you book valuair online ticket, i suggest you to pick flight number which had codeshare with jetstar, the plane is more clean than valuair's :p
but, talking about delayed schedule, i dont have a word to say it, unpredictable:)

cmiiw thanks

was at changi on wednesday, and i can confirm right away that airasia indeed land and take off from terminal 1.

re. impression, ucle wilson is really nice, got meself a free headphone stand, hippo safari, and epic sparkles the first time i was there in January when i bought my dt880/250 + edge.
been there abt. 4-5times, but seems like the uncles, still didn't recognize me :p
the store itself looks a bit like their store in surabaya (yet a bit more messy :p), employees are nice and very helpful, and compared to other shops in adelphi (discounting the dirty bars at the basement :D) are somewhat more friendly and familiar.
all prices are negotiable, and depending on the bundles you buy, could be a great steal (example was my dt880 :p)
too bad that they don't have any akg replacement pads on stock atm though :(

edit : after much thought, price was not really negotiable, but in a way, they let you have other stuffs as extra, or negotiate you a cheap price as bundles

i'll definitely go there each time i stops at singapore :)

jasmine and adriene(did i spell it correctly?) were really friendly and helpful..they did not hesitate to assist me anytime i want to try new stuffs, they didn't even hesitate to open new unit if i want to try something which does not belong to demo unit!! ;D

overall, in my opinion, jaben is a leading audio store in Singapore..they provide quality service and unforgettable hearing experience..

4 thumbs up for jaben! :D

Cheap + free internet + near to everywhere = WIN! :D

Hi all, I have a plan to visit Singapore in early November...
And hopefully I will also be able to visit Jaben...

On that occasion, I also have a plan to buy the new iPod Touch 4th gen...
Does anybody know a place where I can buy it in a cheaper price than at Apple Store??
But of course it must be a recommended and trusted store, hehehe...
Or is it better for me to just buy it at the Apple Store??

Thanks in advance for the help :)

The Adelphi itself is full of audio-related stores...
The mall was quite quiet when I got there yesterday...
But Jaben was full of people inside, crowded... good for Jaben though :alis:
got no chance to have some chit chat, only able say hello to storekeepers (2F, 1M) + uncle...
